Essex County Outreach March 2025 Recap

It matters to ECO that we provide members of our community with resources and services when and how they need them. We also want people to know what services we offer, and that help is available in their neighborhood whenever and however they are ready to accept it.

If you know someone in Essex County who needs recovery support or services, please reach out to us at 978-961-7388.

RESOURCES AND SERVICES DATA

ECO worked with local police departments and other community partners this month to bring services and resources to Essex County residents, housed and unhoused. Here are some numbers from our activity in March of 2025:

Rides provided: 49

For clients who are not able to access services and resources due to transportation barriers, ECO provides rides to destinations such as detox, IP/OP treatment, clinics, AA/NA meetings, the hospital, court, doctor’s appointments, and other recovery-related appointments.

Sober housing scholarships awarded: 14

ECO is proud to support clients seeking sober living situations. Our scholarship covers move-in costs for those entering a sober home. Applicants must live in Essex County, and the house must be approved by ECO.

Outreaches conducted: 88*

ECO conducts outreaches via phone, in person, alongside police officers, at shelters, on the street, in the community, at community events, through service projects, etc.

Clients who accepted services: 50**

Over half of the individuals we reached this month accepted services.

Follow-ups/client engagements made: >250

After an initial outreach, ECO follows up to engage with clients and ensures they are properly connected to services and resources. It is our hope that clients will utilize ECO Recovery Coaches long-term; in many cases, this happens.

*These numbers do not cover all ECO regions served. Reporting for those regions will be included in April’s recap.

We want to thank all of our community partners and every police officer who joined us on outreaches and follow-ups. This is a huge team effort. We are grateful that we’re able to access and support so many people across the county.

The Essex County Outreach Quarterly Meeting | New England HIDTA | Friday, March 28th

Our quarterly meeting in Methuen at New England HIDTA began with inspiring opening remarks from District Attorney Paul Tucker, who praised the outstanding efforts of law enforcement in addressing substance use disorder, mental health challenges, and crime. DA Tucker highlighted the dedication and collaboration shown across the county in supporting individuals in crisis.

The attorneys, clinicians, and probation officers of Lawrence District Specialty Court participated in the panel discussion on the vital role of Recovery Court, Mental Health Court, and Veterans Court. The panelists provided valuable insight into the mission of these courts — to offer individuals struggling with addiction and mental health challenges an opportunity to receive treatment and support rather than solely facing punitive measures. The goal is to empower participants to successfully complete the program and rebuild their lives with a strong foundation in recovery.

The panel also featured a powerful testimony from a recent graduate of Recovery Court. His heartfelt story of resilience and transformation served as a beacon of hope and inspiration for others who may be navigating similar challenges. His experience exemplified the profound impact of second chances and the importance of comprehensive support systems.

A significant portion of the meeting also focused on the 2024 statistics related to addiction and behavioral health calls, emphasizing the growing need for continued response and support. Essex County’s swift response times and commitment to connecting individuals with appropriate treatment services were commended.

Through collaboration with law enforcement, treatment providers, specialty courts, and community organizations, Essex County has demonstrated its leadership in providing compassionate and effective care. The success stories shared serve as a reminder of the positive impact that collective efforts can have on those in need.

Thank you to all attendees and partners for your dedication to making a difference. Together, we remain committed to reducing stigma, saving lives, and providing pathways to recovery.
