There is no right or wrong approach to an individual’s personal journey towards recovery. This journey also does not have to follow a straight line and individual’s can navigate various approaches to determine the method best for them. Abstinence-based, meaning to avoid and not engage in certain substances and behaviors, whether indefinitely or a short period of time has its pro’s and con’s.  Attempting a strictly sober approach does not mean other methods cannot be tried if not successful.  Conversely, some individuals might find it crucial to their well-being and sobriety to completely abstain.

Faith-based programs , or  Twelve-Step Programs are rooted in the belief of a Higher Power – in whatever capacity that may be.  It is based off of AA foundations from the 1930’s, which usually has spiritual references, however that may look to the individual.  Click on the link below to learn more about what the actual steps are and additional resources.
